Covering an area of 1800 square kilometers it is the second largest mountain range in Europe. It is a landscape made up of Austria's highest mountains, wide glaciers, Alpine pastures, rocks, waterfalls, and ancient cultural landscapes. The difference in elevation from the deepest valley stream to the top of the "Grossglockner" (11,400’) mountain peak adds up to almost 7,800 feet.
